American Carbon Block - NSF Certified Carbon Block Technology

Made In USA

AMERICAN CARBON BLOCK uses only the finest activated coconut-based carbon for purer water filtration.  Unlike bituminous-based coal solutions, they do not contain high levels of contaminates and dust fines which can leach into water.  In addition, coconut based carbon contains a lower inorganic ash content and more microspores for increased surface area and porosity.  This significantly increases its capacity to absorb small molecules such as VOC’s.  Activated coconut-based carbon is a green product for today’s environmentally conscious companies.

Being microporous in internal structure, coconut shell carbon is well suited for organic chemical adsorption, including volatile organic chemicals while having higher chlorine reduction capabilities. May organic compounds, such as chlorinated and non-chlorinated solvents, triholmethanes, pesticides and VOC are adsorbed into the inner pores; coconut carbon is also effective for the removals of chlorine and moderately effective for removal of some heavy metals.

AMERICAN CARBON BLOCK has the ability to customize carbon blocks to meet your needs and the ever changing needs of your clients.  We manufacture the highest quality, NSF certified blocks made in the USA. AMERICAN CARBON BLOCK offers both custom and standard sizes, in addition to private labeling.  We encourage you to browse through the site, and if any of your questions are not answered, please contact us.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Why American Carbon Block is the Better Choice

Carbon blocks have been used in the water filtration industry since the 1970’s. They were found to be the most effective both as a standalone treatment method and within filtration systems with multiple stages. There are many factors to consider when it comes to designing and manufacturing a proficient carbon block water filter.

img4Activated carbon is quintessential in eliminating bad odors, poor taste and contaminants such as chlorine in drinking water.  The activated carbon is processed in a way that the porosity of the granules is increased, thus allowing a large surface area for adsorption.  With a large surface area it provides an atmosphere very conducive for adsorption, couple with the fact that carbon’s low cost and abundance it is an excellent media to be used in many water filtration applications. Activated carbon is less effective in the removal of heavy metals, nitrites, dissolved inorganic contaminants or sediment, thus it is most productive when a sediment filter precedes the carbon filter.

Carbon blocks are mainly made up of activated carbon granules and a binding agent allowing the carbon to maintain a static position relative to each other, thus making the carbon block a much better choice.  Carbon is commonly used is POU water filtration in both GAC and carbon block applications.   There are two basic forms; Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and Carbon Block. The uniformity of the solid carbon block does not channel or bypass due to its density, thus there is no room for bacteria to be stagnate within the filter. GAC is ground into particles that are smaller than 0.84mm, whereas the particles for the carbon are ground into even smaller particles anywhere from 7 to 19 times smaller than the GAC.  Since the carbon block filter can be manufactured to a smaller micron rating that GAC, enhancing the removal of contaminates.

It is this uniform pore structure between the individual granules of carbon that enable carbon block to achieve higher effectiveness in contaminant reduction. The uniform pore structure of carbon block also increases the contact time with the filter media, further increasing the block’s ability to remove contaminants. American Carbon Block is your choice for the best quality made carbon blocks and filters and of course Made in the USA.
